Designation Minimum Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

CPAs are licensed by state boards. Maryland’s Education and Certification Requirements are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Completion of 27 semester credit units in accounting related subjects plus additional coursework.
  • Successful completion of all four sections of the CPA license exam.
  • Two years of general accounting experience under the direction of an actively licensed CPA.
  • Successful completion of an ethics course.

Certified Financial Planner (CFP®)

Certified Financial Planners are licensed by the CFP Board to use the CFP mark. CFP certification requirements are:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Completion of the financial planning education requirements set by the CFP Board.
  • Successful completion of the 10-hour CFP® Certification Exam.
  • Three-year qualifying full-time work experience.
  • Successfully pass the Candidate Fitness Standards and background check.

Personal Financial Planner (PFS)

Personal Financial Planners are credentialed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). PFS certification requirements include:

  • Being licensed as a CPA in good standing
  • Earning a minimum of 75 hours of personal financial planning education within the preceding five-year period
  • Successfully completing of a qualifying PFS Exam
  • Having two-years of qualifying full-time work experience

Joe graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. degree in business. He has been President and CEO of Geier Asset Management, Inc. since 1999.

Thomas M. Geier, CPA, PFS, CFP®

Tom graduated with a B.A. degree in accounting from Loyola University. He has been a Vice President of Geier Asset Management, Inc. since 1999.

Erich M. Imphong, CFP®

Erich graduated with a B.S. degree from Catholic University of America. He has been a Portfolio Analyst with Geier Asset Management, Inc. since 2006 and Assistant Portfolio Manager since 2013.

Daniel W. Mules, CPA, PFS

Dan graduated with a B.S. degree in accounting from the University of Baltimore. He has been a Client Manager with Geier Asset Management, Inc. since 2007.

Gregory A. Palacorolla, CFP®

Greg graduated with two B.S. degrees in business and sports management from Towson and an MBA from the University of Baltimore. He was a Portfolio Analyst and Financial Planner with Geier Asset Management before his current role as Director of Wealth Management.

Brian J. Woods

Brian graduated with a B.S. degree in accounting from Loyola University. He has been a Vice President of Geier Asset Management, Inc. since 2004.
